Triolets

Another Soldier Dies
(based very loosely on the triolet – as usual I have adapted to my voice!)

When another soldier dies
I always think about their children,
mothers, fathers, husbands, wives .
When another soldier dies
the arc of pain from that demise –
lives demolished, hope denied
when another soldier dies.

I always think about the children.

  1. Sally, loved this modern take on triolet. It’s not written i’n iambs, but that’s ok; the refrains are excellent, and repeated effectively. Brave of you to tackle this subject matter too. Respect to you Sally x

Hi, thanks for reading and commenting. I know it should be iambs, but my poetry rhythm more often than not utilises a trochaic foot and I have learned to go with it instead of force it into something that would be unnatural for me. I realise it is not pure, but it is what it is.
I do enjoy the repetitive forms.
