This week Chris Galford has presented photos of graffiti as prompts…some great photos…I chose the one below:
For All Who Remain
Shadow-toil of tearaway,
sneaking in the dark – vandal,
artist, creator, desecrator?
Or bringer of truth, provider
of perspective, pointing the way
– urban philosopher?
Steal victory from the insurgent
– a timely reminder to mark
lives lost in anothers’ war
celebrate vision, their
ultimate gift, donated in
service of others.
Applaud every tiny gain
imagine a way through
the grey streets of pain.
Aerosoled words of
hope on a wall –
Remember…
Icarus
also
flew!
Reminds me of the song “Sounds of Silence,” and like how you question such acts as philosophy or creative acts of desecration. i think when such questions arise, the art strikes a nerve. Excellent work with the prompt, Sally.
thank you Adam – maybe it’s the dark night and silence – I just couldn’t resist this prompt, it shouted at me straight away.
i much like your …urban philosopher…also the grey streets of pain…spray-painted with new hope…we should never forget that he flew…well played sally
thank you Claudia. This was one of those poems that arrive almost fully formed – it was a great prompt
